Julie Faubert
My practice is anchored in a complex understanding of places, contexts, and situations. I conceive site-specific works that can either be created in galleries (Espace no. 1, Centre d’art et de diffusion Clark, Montreal, Quebec, 2013 ; Je ne raconte pas d’histoires, Sporobole, Sherbrooke, Quebec, 2014), on the sidewalks (Les mots, Dare-Dare, Montreal, Quebec, 2010), in a national library (Pièces sonores in situ à la Grande Bibliothèque, Montreal, 2016), an ancient printing works (Estar aqui, Invisible Places, Viseu, Portugal, 2014), or a commercial space (Il y aurait une table mais vous faites parfois semblant, in collaboration with Sébastien Cliche, Quebec City, Quebec, 2018). Coming from a visual arts background, my work articulates the very relation between sound and the images through which we listen to it. Since 2013, exploring this relation had become for me a manner of revealing and giving form to the sensation of presence. Based in Montreal (Quebec/Canada), I have been creating solo and collective exhibitions, installations, performances, sound pieces or interventions in common, public and artistic spaces in Quebec, Canada, and Europe.
