mélodie melak
Musician, organiser and curator Mélodie Melak lives and works in Berlin since 2009.
She has a degree in art with a focus on communication. In the last 15 years, she has contributed to several arts collectives and cultural organisations in the field of jazz, contemporary, improvised and experimental music. Since 2010, she has been part of the collective running the venue ausland, a territory for experimental music, performance and art.
In her work, she likes to question the place and role of the performer in experimental art, and investigate the relationship between the individual voice and the great melody, the pivot between solitude and community.
Her solo project consists of self-made synthesizers that are hooked up to an array of plants. The plants, who have their own unique timber, shape the sound of each oscillator. Because of physiological reactions, the plants modulate the frequency they produce, creating an alive and ever morphing sound.
On stage, a.melodie composes with the sounds produced and modulated live by the plants. Her music evolves from minimalism to noise drone.
