Pili Coït sind Guilhem Meier (Gitarre/Gesang, aber auch Schlagzeuger bei PoiL, PinioL, le Grand Sbam und LFant) und Jessica Martin Maresco (präparierte Percussions, auch Sängerin bei Ez3kiel, Mercurial, Saddam Webcam)
Ihr Sound entwickelt sich ständig weiter und bleibt dabei dem Pseudo-Minimalismus treu, der das Duo charakterisiert: Unklassifizierbares Schlagzeug mit Bass-Tom, Ölkanne und Low-Fi-Synth-Drum, begleitet von einer Gitarre mit 12 Saiten (doppelt so vielen wie nötig). Der harmonische Reichtum verzehnfacht sich dadurch, der Klang der 12-saitigen Gitarre hallt mit einem fernen Echo nach, persisch vielleicht? Siebziger Jahre (warum nicht)? Dadurch öffnen sich die akustischen Dimensionen einer entschieden elektrischen Band. Vergleichbar damit, wenn Jeff Buckley uns eine Teezeremonie während einer Portishead-Beschwörung anbietet. Wie ein Tête-à-Tête zwischen Nina Hagen und Nick Drake auf dem Dach eines Riesenrads. Als ob Kurt Cobain mit dem Fahrrad aus China gekommen wäre. Verrückt und sexy, kreativ und intim, zerbrechlich und intensiv... zwei sind besser.
Als kühn-originelles Duo Witch 'n' Monk kombinieren Mauricio Velasierra sein radikal-elektizistisches Spiel auf Flöten lateinamerikanischer Provinienz und Heidi Heidelberg ihre Jazz-Punk-Gitarre/Bass und ihren anarchischem Soprangesang. Ihre Musik geht nahtlos von strukturierten Arrangements zu wilden Improvisationen über. Live nutzt das Duo dafür eine Vielzahl von Pedalen, Controlern und ein Labyrinth an Signalwegen. Die Essenz der Zusammenarbeit von Mauricio Velasierra und Heidi Heidelberg ist im Bandnamen Witch 'n' Monk eingeschrieben: Dunkel/hell, weiblich/männlich, punkig/romantisch. Das Erschaffen von Kontrasten ist Grundlage und Ausgangspunk für die Arbeit der Beiden. Von dort aus bewegen sie sich an den Rändern verschiedener Genres. Gefeiert in der Jazz-, zeitgenössischen Klassik- und DIY-Szene, spielten sie in renommierten Konzertsälen und auf Festivals wie der Royal Festival Hall, den Jazzfestivals in Berlin, London und Umea sowie im Pariser La Cigale. Ihr letztes Album wurde 2020 auf John Zorns legendärem Label Tzadik Records veröffentlicht und von der Kritik hoch gelobt. Es wurde von The Guardian zum Contemporary Album of the Month gekürt und erhielt den renommierten Preis der deutschen Schallplattenkritik.
Klara Ravat ist eine in Berlin lebende Duftkünstlerin. Nach dem Studium in qualitativer Trendforschung in Barcelona übersiedelte sie in die Niederlande, wo sie ihren Bachelor of Arts in Kunstwissenschaft an der Königlichen Akademie der Künste erwarb. Gleichzeitig begann sie ein Psychologiestudium an der Open University of Catalonia. Klara Ravat ist Mitbegründerin und Leiterin von The Smell Lab, einer in Berlin und im internationalen Kontext verorteten Plattform für olfaktorische Kunst und interdisziplinäre Praktiken, die sich Duft als Ausdrucks- und Kommunikationsmittel verschreibt. Hauptsächlich widmet sich The Smell Lab dem Veranstalten, der Koproduktion, Vermittlung, Innovation und Unterstützung künstlerischer Praktiken, die sich mit dem Geruchssinn befassen.

Pili Coït is a duo composed of Guilhem Meier (guitar/vocals but also drummer in PoiL, PinioL, le Grand Sbam, and LFant) and Jessica Martin Maresco (prepared percussions, also singer in Ez3kiel, Mercurial, Saddam Webcam)
Their sound is always evolving while remaining faithful to the pseudo minimalism that characterises the duo; an unclassifiable percussion set, with its bass tom, oil can and its low-fi synth-drum, accompanied by a guitar with twice as many strings as it should have. The harmonic richness is multiplied tenfold, the sound of the 12-string resonating with a distant echo, Persian perhaps, seventies (why not?), but opening up the acoustic dimensions of a resolutely electric band. It is as if Jeff Buckley offered us a tea ceremony during a Portishead incantation. It's like a tête-à-tête between Nina Hagen and Nick Drake at the top of a Ferris wheel. As if Kurt Cobain had arrived by bike from China. Crazy and sexy, creative and intimate, fragile and intense... two is better.
Defiantly original duo Witch 'n' Monk combine Mauricio Velasierra’s radically electrified Latin American flutes, with Heidi Heidelberg’s jazz-punk guitar/bass and anarchic soprano vocals. The music travels seamlesly from structured arrangements to wild improvisations, using a myriad of control pedals and labyrinthine signal paths to orchestrate live. The essence of their collaboration is encapsulated in the name; dark/light, feminine/masculine, punk/Romantic. Creating contrast is fundamental to their work and thus they tread upon the edges of genres. Celebrated in jazz, contemporary classical and DIY music scenes they have played prestigious venues and festivals such as the Royal Festival Hall, Berlin, London and Umea Jazz Festivals and Paris' La Cigale. Their latest album was released on John Zorn's legendary Tzadik Records in 2020 to critical acclaim. It was named Contemporary Album of the Month by The Guardian and received the prestigious Preis der deutschen Schallplattenkritik.
Klara Ravat is an olfactory artist based in Berlin. After studying qualitative trend research in Barcelona Klara moved to The Netherlands where she graduated with a Bachelor of Arts (ArtScience at The Royal Academy of Arts). At the same time, she started studying Psychology at the Open University of Catalonia. Klara is the co-founder and the director of the Smell Lab, a platform for olfactory art and inter-disciplinary practices that relate to scent as a medium for expression and communication, in Berlin and in an international context. The Smell Lab main mission is to co-produce, host, educate, innovate and support artistic practices that involve the sense of smell and olfaction.
