Michael Vorfeld

Michael Vorfeld (Berlin),  Musiker und bildender Künstler, spielt Perkussion und selbst entworfene Saiteninstrumente und realisiert elektro-akustische Klangarbeiten. Er ist aktiv in den Bereichen experimentelle Musik, improvisierte Musik und Klangkunst. Michael Vorfeld entwickelt ortsbezogene Installationen und Performances mit Licht und Klang, arbeitet mit Fotografie und Film. Er ist Mitglied verschiedener Formationen und kooperiert mit Künstlern aus unterschiedlichen Bereichen. Seine vielfältigen Aktivitäten umfassen umfangreiche Konzert-, Performance- und Ausstellungstätigkeiten in Europa, Amerika, Asien und Australien.

The musician and visual artist Michael Vorfeld, based in Berlin, plays percussion and self designed stringed instruments and realizes electro-acoustic sound pieces. He works in the field of improvised, experimental music and sound art and is often involved in site-specific art projects. He realizes light installations and performances with light, works with photography and film. Besides his solo activities he is a member of various ensembles and collaborates with artists from different art forms. His list of activities includes numerous concerts, performances, and exhibitions in Europe, America, Asia, and Australia.
His list of activities includes performances among others at the Documenta 8, Kassel 1987 (with the artists group Heinrich Mucken); Moltkerei Werkstatt, Cologne; Het Apollohuis, Eindhoven; Logos Foundation, Ghent; Künstlerhaus am Deich, Bremen; Palais des Beaux Arts, Brussels; Melkweg, Amsterdam; Expo – German Pavillon, Hannover; Goethe Institut, Hanoi; Experimental Intermedia, New York; Podewil, Berlin; Center of Contemporary Art, Warsaw; and Plan B, Tokyo.
A selection of Vorfeld’s current sound projects include The Zoo (with Liz Allbee), Vorwolf (with percussionist Christian Wolfarth), the percussion quintet Glück (with Burkhard Beins, Enrico Malatesta, Christian Wolfarth, and Ingar Zach), a duo with sound and visual artist Claus van Bebber, and a duo with pianist Reinhold Friedl. In addition to collaborations like these, Vorfeld has also developed a unique solo vocabulary on percussion, having released four solo CDs of his work for solo percussion, most recently on Monotype Records.
